Who are we?
The Ifremer "Biodiversity Environment" unit conducts research work to understand, preserve, and sustainably enhance marine ecosystems and fisheries resources, in a context of increasing anthropogenic pressures (pollution, climate change, overfishing) and strong socio-economic needs (food security, cultural identity, blue economy). Its actions are part of Ifremer's priority theme on "Combining a healthy and nourishing ocean," in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 14) and national and European public policies (WFD, CFP, SNML).

Under the responsibility of the head of the BIODIVENV unit, you will lead research work aimed at understanding the relationships between environmental and anthropogenic pressures (chemical pollution, climate change, toxic algal blooms, fishing effort, tourism, etc.), essential marine habitats (coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves), and fisheries resources and biodiversity.

What will your mission BE?

Your missions will enhance integrative, innovative and multidisciplinary approaches to:

  • Map anthropogenic pressures and functional zones of biodiversity exploited by fishing.
  • Characterize the structure and functioning of biological communities and habitats supporting fishing activities.
  • Characterize the links between life history traits of exploited biodiversity, habitat quality, fishing effort, and practices.
  • Consider the restoration of fisheries resources and the quality of their habitats.
  • Deploy in-situ observation of exploited biodiversity by combining video, eDNA/eRNA, underwater acoustics, in coherence with fisheries monitoring and environmental quality surveillance networks.

What will your activities BE?
