Job Summary
The Mayo Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) seeks a highly motivated Research Scientist with a PhD and postdoctoral training in immunology to advance the lab's research programs focused on autoimmune disease, antigen-specific immune tolerance, and translational immunology. This position will conduct research that follows from the recent Olson et al. PNAS publication (doi: 10.1073/pnas.2501046122).
Essential Job Duties
- Organize, plan, and conduct experiments to study and investigate scientific problems and engineering challenges in immunology.
- Drive data generation for high-impact publications and grant applications.
- Analyze and present data at lab meetings, conferences, and in manuscripts.
- Collaborate with other labs, core facilities, academic institutions, and companies.
- Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or research staff as appropriate.
- Partner with Principal Investigator on initiating, writing, and/or submitting grant proposals.
Basic Qualifications
- PhD in Immunology or a closely related discipline.
- Must have 5 years of relevant experience (including time spent in predoctoral and postdoctoral training).
- Demonstrated expertise with mammalian cell culture.
- Demonstrated competence with techniques such as ELISA, Western blots, and flow cytometry.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral research experience with a strong publication record.
- Demonstrated expertise in cellular and molecular immunology.
- Demonstrated expertise in murine or other in vivo models of immune function or autoimmunity.
- Experience with autoimmune disease, immune tolerance, or chronic inflammation.
- Familiarity with translational and/or preclinical research concepts.
- Interest in therapeutic modalities (e.g., biologics, nanoparticles, gene-based approaches).
