Job Summary:
The Research Specialist position will work with the Principal Investigator in Cancer Biology in the UW Laboratory of Marina Sharifi, M.D., Ph. D. at the UW Carbone Cancer Center. A major focus in the Sharifi lab includes studying mechanisms of targeted therapy resistance and circulating tumor cells. This research will focus on development of liquid biopsy assays as well as pre-clinical models of targeted therapy resistance in hormone-dependent cancers. The position requires the ability to work in a collaborative environment with other investigators on joint projects in this field. Involvement in these activities is expected to lead to scholarly work that will be published in scientific journals.
- This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Key Job Responsibilities:
- Performs literature reviews and writes reports
- Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
- Trains individuals on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
- Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
- Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
- Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
- Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers

Compensation:
The starting salary for the position is $46,000 annually; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in molecular biology methods, next generation sequencing, or immunology is desired but not required.
- Experience with fluorescence microscopy is desire but not required.
- Experience with cell culture flow cytometry and microfluidic technologies is desired but not required.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred; focus in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or other closely related biological science is preferred.
