Responsibilities
Research Specialist
Perform experiments as directed by supervisors, including:
- inventory of new and used/processed DNA samples
- any necessary transport of samples
- utilizing lab software and sample inventories to identify requested sample sets
- extraction of DNA from stored samples as required
- Qubit measures of requested DNA samples
- plating of required DNA sample sets
- provision of required DNA sample sets to sequencing lab/facility
- maintenance of sample inventories in laboratory sample inventory software
- maintenance of freezers and alarm systems
Assist with laboratory maintenance and reagent production as needed. Assist with laboratory equipment inventory annually. Assist with laboratory safety review annually.
Stay up to date with required training and safety protocols. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). Attend weekly lab meetings, participate in discussion.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Research Specialist, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Research Specialist, III: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
Research Specialist, IV: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.
