Research Staff Assistant
Position Summary
The Barnhart Lab conducts research to define the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neuronal homeostasis. The Research Staff Assistant, reporting to the Principal Investigator, will use Drosophila genetics, in vivo microscopy, and quantitative image analysis to study mitochondrial homeostasis in neurons in vivo.
This role is subject to grant funding.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and generate Drosophila stocks, including making Drosophila food.
- Assist in dissections, staining, and imaging adult Drosophila brains by confocal microscopy.
- Assist with general lab maintenance, including ordering and receiving reagents, making lab stock solutions (e.g., sugar, salt, saline for in vivo imaging of Drosophila), and managing chemical inventory and safety records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required in a scientific discipline.
- Minimum of six months of experience in a research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- BA or BS in Cell Biology or Neuroscience.
- Experience working with Drosophila melanogaster.
- Microscopy experience.
