Offer Description
A call for applications is open for one research fellowship under the “MARETEC BASE 2025-2029” project (MARETEC UIDB/50009/2025) of IST-ID, financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC)
Workplan:
- To gather information on the production and consumption of natural gas worldwide, and to assess the energy efficiency of its use;
- To analyse changes, from 1971 onwards, in the distribution of natural gas consumption across the various industrial sectors;
- To produce a scientific article setting out the results of the historical analysis of natural gas.
Duration: The research fellowship will have a duration of 3 months. It’s expected to begin in October 2026 and may be eventually renewed up to the maximum of 24 months, including the duration of the initial contract

Benefits
Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/fct-atualizou-o-valor-das-bolsas-para-2026/), the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is 1.090,98 €. The grant holder will be reimbursed for the payment of Voluntary Social Insurance (up to the amount corresponding to the 1st step).

Selection process
Selection methods: The selection methods will be the following:
(1) Curriculum assessment, accounting for 80%, of which:
a. Academic performance (30%). Grades and number of modules completed in the Master’s programme (score 1–20);
b. Research experience (40%). Experience in the historical study of the production, consumption and energy efficiency of natural gas (score 1–20);
c. Fluency in written and spoken English (10%). Assessed on the basis of publications, presentations, professional experience in an international environment or certifications (score 1–20).
(2) Possible individual interview (in the event of a tie between the top two or more candidates), weighted at 20% (score from 1 to 20).
Composition of the selection Jury: Chair: Tânia Alexandra dos Santos Costa e Sousa (Assistant Professor); Members: Tiago Morais Delgado Domingos (Associate Professor) and Marcos Duarte Mateus (Assistant Professor). Substitute member: Lígia Laximi Machado de Amorim Pinto (Assistant Researcher).
Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will be communicated to all applicants by e-mail.
Deadlines and procedures of complaint and appeal. A complaint may be lodged from the final decision within 15 working days, or an appeal to the Executive Board of IST-ID within 30 working days, both counted from the respective notification
