Research Technician, Immune Monitoring Core

The Immune Monitoring Core enables cutting-edge cancer immunotherapy research by developing and standardizing advanced immune assays that precisely measure patient immune responses in clinical trials. By leveraging high-dimensional technologies and expert assay design, the Core ensures reliable biomarker data that guides therapeutic decision-making and accelerates translation of promising treatments to patients. You will carry out a variety of laboratory procedures mainly revolving around human blood and tissue sample processing, banking, and sample database management and support generating high-quality immune data that shapes clinical trial outcomes and helps bring more effective cancer immunotherapies to the clinic!
Role Overview:
- Perform a range of laboratory procedures, including PBMC isolation, serum/plasma collection, and processing of human blood, tissue, and other biological specimens for cryopreservation and analysis.
- Manage and maintain a large-scale sample inventory database, ensuring accurate documentation of sample processing details and proper tracking of clinical specimens.
- Coordinate receipt and handling of clinical samples within the core facility, collaborating closely with senior laboratory staff and administrative teams to ensure accurate repository updates and sample tracking.
- Adhere to established laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols; support assay validation efforts and contribute to drafting and updating SOPs and technical reports.
- Maintain meticulous and timely records of experiments, sample processing activities, patient-related data, and reagent/material usage in laboratory notebooks and study documentation.
- Operate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment used in sample processing and storage.
- Communicate daily progress, results, and any challenges to supervisors; work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient lab operations and share updates during group meetings.
- Review scientific literature to support method development and optimization; troubleshoot procedures as needed and implement improvements to existing workflows.
- Monitor and replenish laboratory supplies to support ongoing sample banking activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support core facility operations.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in life sciences.
- Basic laboratory skills (pipetting, cell counting, aseptic technique etc.)
- Experience with handling clinical samples.
Core Skills:
- Attention to detail and strong record-keeping habits.
- Ability to follow protocols while troubleshooting when needed.
- Team-oriented approach to supporting postdocs and fellow researchers.
- Adaptability in a dynamic lab environment.
Additional Information:
- Location: NYC; Zuckerman Research Center
- Schedule: onsite, Monday to Friday, 11 am to 7 pm; may entail after-hours transfer of frozen samples to spare freezers in rare events of freezer malfunctions.
