Your personal sphere of influence:
The Matos Lab is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician / Lab Manager to support our research and contribute to the day-to-day organization of the laboratory. The position is available from October 2026 (or by agreement) as a 20-hour/week appointment. Initially, the position will be offered on a fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension to a permanent position.
Our laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms that ensure faithful chromosome segregation during meiosis and preserve genome stability. We combine genetics, genome engineering, advanced microscopy, biochemistry and quantitative genomics in budding yeast and mammalian germ cells to understand how chromosome architecture regulates meiotic recombination and fertility.
Current projects involve CRISPR-mediated genome engineering, mouse models, chromosome biology, super-resolution microscopy, proteomics and genome-wide approaches to study DNA repair and chromosome dynamics.
Your future tasks:
Research support
- Molecular cloning and plasmid construction.
- Genome engineering using CRISPR/Cas technologies.
- Generation, validation and maintenance of yeast strains and mammalian cell lines.
- Support for mouse colony genotyping and molecular analyses.
- Preparation of molecular biology reagents and shared laboratory stocks.
- Assistance with microscopy, biochemical and cell biological experiments.
- Establishing, optimizing and documenting laboratory protocols.
- Maintaining shared equipment and training laboratory members in standard procedures.
Laboratory management
- Ordering laboratory consumables and equipment, monitoring inventories and maintaining laboratory databases.
- Coordinating interactions with suppliers and service engineers.
- Managing laboratory organization, shared equipment and documentation.
- Assisting with onboarding and training of new laboratory members.
- Coordinating waste disposal and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety regulations.
- Supporting the implementation of good laboratory practices and quality standards.
This is part of your personality:
- Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline.
- Have practical experience working in a molecular biology or cell biology research laboratory.
- Have experience with molecular cloning and ideally genome editing, mammalian cell culture and/or microscopy.
- Be highly organized and able to work independently.
- Enjoy troubleshooting and optimizing experimental workflows.
- Have excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of German is advantageous.
- Enjoy working collaboratively in an international research environment.
Experience with any of the following would be considered an advantage:
- CRISPR/Cas genome engineering
- Fluorescence or super-resolution microscopy
- Mouse genotyping
- Next-generation sequencing library preparation
- Proteomics or advanced molecular biology techniques
