Department of Plasma Physics and Technology (formerly the Institute of Physical Electronics) at the Faculty of Science of MU University provides courses and guarantees basic and applied research in the fields of plasma physics, plasma applications and nanotechnology. It has a tradition of more than 50 years. The CEPLANT Research and Development Centre for Plasma and Nanotechnology Surface Treatments was established in 2010 as part of the Institute of Physical Electronics and was funded by European Structural Funds and recognised as a Key Technology Centre (KET) by the European Union.

Job Description

Researcher II will work in the Plasma Diagnostics and Modeling group. He/she will be primarily responsible for measurements using laser and optical plasma diagnostics, namely diagnostics based on laser-induced fluorescence, laser scattering, fast imaging and optical emission spectroscopy. The work includes independent realization of experiments, evaluation of measured data, preparation of publications. We expect participation in group projects and the independent submitting of own projects. The work may include teaching and supervision of students' final theses.

The Plasma Diagnostics and Modeling Group is engaged in basic and application-oriented research into the physics and chemistry of low-temperature plasma for a wide range of applications, including in collaboration with industry. The group is active in the application areas of gas conversion, deposition processes, characterization and development of advanced products for the electrical engineering industry, plasma drives, and ozone generation.

Role description:

  • Planning of research, experimental design, and measurement of optical and electrical quantities aimed at understanding the processes occurring in the studied plasma.
  • Operation of high-voltage sources for plasma generation.
  • Computer data processing and analysis.
  • Preparation of publications and presentation of results at international conferences.
  • Preparation of own projects and group projects, cooperation in student supervision and teaching.

Key Duties:

  • PhD in plasma physics.
  • Experience abroad or in industry.
  • Extensive experience in experimental plasma physics.
  • Solid expertise in optical or laser plasma diagnostics.
  • Ability to evaluate large amounts of data using a computer.
  • Knowledge of programming.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written) in English.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently on assigned tasks and formulate their solutions, collaborate with other members of the group and members of other research groups, and assist students in their research work.
  • Active and positive approach to work.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office, TeX, and programming languages.
  • Independence, reliability, flexibility, communication skills, pleasant demeanor.
