The work of the Residence Life Specialist centers on coordinating housing operations to include summer programs and camps, enhancing students' residential living and learning experiences through supervising and developing Residence Assistants (RAs), and supporting Greek Life. This position blends operations along with student engagement, cultivating a strong sense of belonging, and supporting student success within Wabash's residential communities.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position that reports to the Associate Dean of Students.
Primary Responsibilities
Housing Operations and Facilities Coordination
- Coordinate room selection processes, including room assignments, roommate selection, and housing agreements for independent students.
- Coordinate residence hall and fraternity opening and closing processes.
- Assess the physical condition of rooms before and after occupancy.
- Prepare work orders based on room condition.
- Serve as liaison between Campus Services and students.
- Vet and prioritize work orders for annual house improvements.
- Issue, track, and retrieve student room and building keys.
- Coordinate summer housing operations.
- Coordinate with Campus Safety to conduct periodic inspections of living unit safety systems.
- Serve as liaison between food service providers and students and help ensure College standards are met by fraternities and their food service providers.
- Serve as liaison to the Admissions Office to coordinate prospective student visits and tours of residential facilities.
- Conduct biweekly cleaning inspection of fraternity common spaces and grounds.
Residence Life Leadership and Community Development
- Promote a residential environment that supports learning, personal responsibility, leadership development, and positive citizenship.
- Supervise, mentor, and support Residence Assistants in their roles as student leaders and community builders.
- Collaborate with RAs to develop and implement programs and initiatives that foster student engagement, connection, inclusion, and a strong sense of belonging.
- Address student conduct and behavioral concerns proactively while supporting student growth and accountability within the College’s code of conduct, The Gentleman’s Rule.
- Collaborate with Student Life staff, faculty, Campus Safety, and other campus partners to enhance the residential student experience.
- Serve as resource and liaison to Greek Life officers, members, and chapter advisors.
- Support fraternity leaders in fostering healthy, welcoming, and accountable living environments that contribute positively to brotherhood development and overall campus culture.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide evening and weekend presence on campus as needed.
- Participate in divisional and campus-wide initiatives that support student success and retention.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in residence life, student leadership development, housing operations, or related areas within higher education.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing student leaders.
- Knowledge of student development, community building practices, and strategies that foster student belonging and engagement.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and campus partners.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Shared institutional value and commitment to fostering a student-centered and student-led approach grounded in the College's Gentleman's Rule and relationship development.
- Ability to proactively address student concerns, manage conflict, and support student accountability and growth.
