Job Description:

The Stony Brook University School of Nursing invites applications for 1–2 clinical faculty appointments ranging from 0.5–1.0 FTE (academic year) within the School of Nursing. These positions offer an exciting opportunity for experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP) or Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) to contribute to the education of future nurses while advancing innovative nursing education within a nationally recognized academic health center.

We seek dynamic clinician–educators with current certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife and recent clinical experience who demonstrate excellence in advanced practice and a strong commitment to nursing education.  The successful candidates will contribute to teaching across a range of undergraduate and graduate nursing courses and programs, bringing specialized expertise to support student learning throughout the curriculum.

Faculty Role and Impact

As Clinical Instructors, Clinical Assistant Professors, or Clinical Associate Professors, the successful candidates will contribute to the educational, scholarly, clinical, and community service missions of the School of Nursing. Our clinical faculty lead innovative, student-centered teaching and experiential learning that prepares graduates with the clinical reasoning, leadership, and professional practice competencies needed to succeed in today’s complex healthcare environment.

Faculty appointed to these roles may teach across a variety of nursing courses and programs, including classroom, clinical, and simulation-based learning environments. Faculty are encouraged to bring creativity and innovation to their teaching and are supported in advancing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, including the development, evaluation, and dissemination of innovative educational practices.

Faculty appointed at the Clinical Assistant and Clinical Associate Professor levels are also expected to contribute to the broader mission of a major research-intensive university through scholarship, practice, and professional service.

Opportunities to maintain clinical practice may be available, supporting continued engagement in advanced practice and strengthening the connection between clinical practice and teaching.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current New York State licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse-Midwife
  • Current national certification in one of the following applicable specialties:
    • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) for NP candidates, or
    • Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) for midwifery candidates
  • Valid NY State Professional Nurse License
  • Recent Nurse Practitioner Experience in Neonatal Health or experience in Nurse Midwifery

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree (Earned or In Progress)
  • Upper Division Teaching Experience
  • Experience Precepting Nurse Practitioner Students

Non-Tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. To qualify for a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Nursing (School of Nursing's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).
