The role will assist and oversee the management of 10-12 varsity teams, ranging from budget to equipment planning, and facilitate coordination with other departments both internal (sports information, athletic training, strength and conditioning, equipment) and external (dean of students office, development, alumni relations). The position also includes game management, including submitting bids and serving as tournament director for postseason competitions.
The position will lead the department's compliance with department, college, league and conference policies, ensuring that staff throughout athletics understand the responsibilities and requirements of all Williams coaches and staff members. The successful candidate will lead educational sessions on NESCAC and NCAA rules, and manage transfer portal requests, medical hardship waivers, and related required NCAA reporting.
The position includes building relationships and trust with students, serving as a point of contact to ensure strong communication and collaboration as student-athletes navigate the challenges of college and collegiate athletics. The position also includes teaching of physical education classes, which are a critical piece of the experience of every student on the Williams College campus.
Qualifications
Candidates are expected to have a master's degree in a related field, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in collegiate athletics. A background in collegiate coaching is preferred, along with a deep understanding of the various aspects of compliance required in the NESCAC and NCAA.
