Summary of Position
The Senior Associate Dean of Student and Community Development is the direct supervisor for The Center for Well-being, Life Design, and Community Engagement (The Well). “The Well” builds community with people from all walks of life, helps to create a welcoming environment for students and employees, and provides resources to students and employees to set them up for success on and off campus. The Senior Associate Dean is the deputy for the Dean of Student and Community Development.
Key Responsibilities
- Organizational Leadership of “The Well”: Provide leadership and supervisory oversight to the Director of Spiritual, Religious Life, and Well-being, the Director of Life Design, and the Director of Community Programs and Operations. Facilitate and implement professional development opportunities for the Director of SRLPW while refining the affiliate religious staff structure to suit current student expressed needs and priorities. Organize and Identify on and off campus professional development opportunities for leadership development and career advancement. Oversee the continued development of “The Well” and develop a relocation and campus-wide communication plan for The Well on Allegheny’s campus that will attract students, faculty, staff/admin from different communities.
- Implementation & Strategic Planning for Campus Wide Initiatives: Provide thought leadership for an action-oriented, institutionally specific Life Design curriculum for students and employees. Serve as a thought partner and co-executor of the Pathway to a Vibrant and Inclusive campus implementation plan, in direct advisement with the Dean of Student & Community Development.
- Accessible Leadership & Collaboration: Engage directly with students, faculty, and non-instructional staff. Collaborate and coordinate with the Offices of Academic Success, Student/Residential Life, Human Resources, Admissions, CCPD and others to encourage student and employee success throughout their time at Allegheny.
- Cohort and Retention Priorities: Co-chair the newly combined Retention and Student Intervention teams. Provide administrative and strategic oversight for our student-facing, cohort programs [Bonner and RISE] ensuring timely and efficient support mechanisms are used for recruitment, retention, and long-term strategic planning. Create efficient procedural processes for each of the cohort programs to ensure consistency and alignment with student facing institutional priorities.
Experience and Qualifications
- Master’s degree required; Doctoral/Advanced degree preferred
- 4-7 years of related professional experience required
Required Knowledge
- Demonstrate knowledge of recruitment & retention of students and employees within higher education.
- Exposure to scholarship on research on student wellness/well-being, spiritual and religious life, student college readiness, civic engagement, student cohort initiatives, and Life Design.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), Google Suite Products required.

- Strong interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.
- Self-starter, forward facing administrator who can work collaboratively with other higher education professionals across different offices and departments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Coachable leader who can accept and apply constructive feedback from direct supervisor.
- Work efficiently and effectively in a timely manner to complete pertinent work assignments.
- Proven record of organizational leadership and ability to lead multiple direct reports in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation
Starting salary will be competitive, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Expected starting salary: $100,000.00 full time, exempt
