JOB SUMMARY : The Senior Associate Vice President for Financial Planning & Analysis is a senior financial leader and strategic advisor to the CFO. This position leads the University’s budget, financial planning, forecasting, resource allocation, financial analytics, and decision support functions.
Responsibilities include leadership for the development of the University’s annual and long-range financial plans, financial analyses to support institutional strategies, enrollment and revenue forecasting, state appropriation planning, capital financial planning, and institutional performance reporting. The Senior Associate Vice President collaborates with academic and administrative leaders to align the University’s financial resources with institutional priorities and long-term financial sustainability goals.
This position is the University’s primary expert on forward-looking financial planning and financial decision support. This individual provides executive leadership with timely and actionable financial insights to enable strategic decision-making.
Essential Duties Summary
Financial Planning and Forecasting
- Lead the creation of the University’s annual operating budget, financial forecast, and long-range financial plan to support institutional priorities and financial sustainability
- Create and maintain models used to forecast enrollment, tuition and fee revenue, state appropriations, personnel costs, auxiliary activities, research activity, and other key financial drivers
- Identify future financial opportunities and risks and make recommendations to executive leadership on mitigation strategies
Budget Development and Resource Allocation
- Lead the University’s budget development, monitoring, and resource allocation processes
- Review funding requests, budget proposals, and investment opportunities and make recommendations on priorities and resource allocation
- Advise executive leadership on the financial implications of new or expanded strategic initiatives, academic programs, and University investments
Financial Analytics and Decision Support
- Prepare financial models, business cases, scenario analysis, and assessments that support executive decision-making
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations on enrollment growth strategies, workforce planning, tuition and fee changes, research expansion, auxiliary enterprises, and other institutional priorities
- Prepare reports, presentations, and analysis for executive leadership, committees, and the Board of Regents
Institutional Financial Performance
- Create and maintain financial dashboards, key performance indicators, and other performance monitoring tools to increase organizational accountability and transparency
- Monitor institutional financial performance versus budget and forecast projections and recommend corrective action when necessary
- Lead institutional financial benchmarking efforts relative to peer organizations and best practices
Capital and Strategic Financial Planning
- Lead financial planning and analysis for the University’s capital improvement program, deferred maintenance program, and other major University investments
- Develop financial strategies that position the University for long-term growth and financial stability
- Advise executive leadership on funding options and financing strategies for strategic initiatives and capital projects
