Position Summary
The Senior Coordinator for Competitive Sports serves as a key operational team member within the Department of Recreational Sports, supporting the delivery of intramural and club sports programs. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Competitive Sports, this position coordinates program implementation, scheduling, and participant engagement while ensuring adherence to established policies and risk management procedures. The Senior Coordinator assists with the supervision and development of a large student staff team and collaborates with campus partners to support facility usage and program operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Recreation or a related field.
- Experience working within campus recreation, intramural sports, and club sports.
- Previous successful administrative experience in a campus recreation setting.
- Current American Red Cross certification or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire.
Duties/Responsibilities
(60%) Program Coordination and Policy Management:
- Coordinate and implement assigned competitive sports programs under the direction of the Assistant Director.
- Assist with the implementation of risk management procedures to include student travel and emergency action plans; Support training of student staff on incident response.
- Maintain high visibility and accessibility to program participants and staff (may include evenings and weekends).
- Coordinate registration procedures, schedule leagues, tournaments, and special events.
- Collaborate with departmental and division staff to define facility needs and schedule appropriately.
- Apply and enforce established policies and procedures; provide feedback for consideration as policies are reviewed.
- Communicate with teams and captains regarding policies and rules, disciplinary procedures, and schedules.
- Assist with the collection and submission of programmatic assessments each fall and spring semester.
(25%) Student Staff Supervision:
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating a staff of 100+ student employees, including program assistants, supervisors, and officials.
- Provide ongoing guidance, support, and feedback to student staff to promote accountability and development.
- Actively incorporate Departmental Vision, Mission, and Values into staff training and development.
(10%) Financial Operations & Administrative Support:
- Assist with budget tracking, payroll processing, and monitoring expenditures.
(5%) Strategic Management and Planning:
- Assist in program planning and implementation aligned with divisional priorities.
- Provide input and recommendations to enhance program offerings, operations, and participant experience.
