Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Electronic Instrument Engineer to be responsible for all aspects of the construction of ultrasensitive, multiplexed measurement instrumentation within a highly collaborative team effort. Work directly with the principal investigator (PI) to become a key member of the team creating transformational instrumentation for single-cell proteomics. The role will be based in Pasadena, CA.

Essential Job Duties

  • Responsible for conception, planning, modeling, assembly, and characterization of ultra-low noise nanodevice readout (including cryogenic electronics), dc to microwave circuit design, software-defined instrumentation for massively-muliplexed baseband analysis, and software for instrument control.
  • Electromagnetic modeling via CAD software such as COMSOL and HFSS.
  • Design and simulation of electronic instrumentation using Spectre or equivalent and circuit layout using Altium or equivalent.
  • Development of instrument control including synchronizing and interfacing between different system modules with LabVIEW, MATLAB and other software.
  • Analysis of the instrument operation via analytic calculations and simulations with Python and/or MATLAB.
  • System evaluation using precision electronic measurements; and network, spectrum, and logic analysis.
  • Development of multiplexed microwave and baseband signal and data acquisition systems – including software-defined instrumentation – for high speed, high throughput measurement and operation.
  • Independently, effectively, and expeditiously complete R&D (research and development) tasks.
  • Quickly provide clear documentation for design and analysis and provide detailed notes on the ongoing work. Generate detailed written instructions (standard operating protocols) for engineering operations.
  • Work in a team of different expertise and harmoniously contribute to a large, complex project. Assist in training, qualification, and supervision of less experienced technical and junior personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's or equivalent degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, experimental physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • 2 years of experience as an electronic instrument engineer, research engineer, or equivalent position for large, complex research and development projects.
  • Requires 2 years of experience in precision instrument development, including design and simulation of electronic instrumentation and circuit layout, development of instrument control including synchronizing and interfacing between different system modules, development of multichannel data acquisition systems, system evaluation using precision electronic measurements, and network, spectrum, and logic analysis.

Hiring Range
