Senior Impact and Knowledge Exchange Manager

The Senior Impact and Knowledge Exchange Manager will take a lead role in the development, coordination and delivery of research impact activities within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, working closely with the faculty’s Pro-Vice Dean (Impact & Knowledge Exchange) and an Impact Manager for Arts & Humanities, as well as colleagues in the Research and External Engagement teams. The role-holder will provide input into the faculty’s impact strategy and ensure their implementation by:

  • Providing expert support and advice for academic staff and faculty-based research centres in planning their impact activities at all stages of a research project’s trajectory.
  • Working closely with academic colleagues to lead on the development and support of impact case studies for REF and contributing to other HEI assessments involving impact (for example, KEF).
  • Work closely with relevant academic and PS staff colleagues within Arts & Humanities and the wider College to enable strategic collaborations and knowledge-sharing for greater impact possibilities.
  • Use their understanding of knowledge exchange activities, funding mechanisms, and the research capabilities across the faculty, to enable collaborations between academics and industry. Support the scoping out of projects, develop clear processes, solve practical problems, connect the right people, and drive forward projects to deliver mutually beneficial, impactful, results.

To lead strategic initiatives to maintain and enhance the impact culture of the faculty.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience
  • Excellent understanding of and experience working in the UK HEI landscape in an impact capacity, ideally with previous experience supporting REF Impact Case Studies
  • Experience supporting relationships between HEIs and non-HEIs
  • Experience in project management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; able to present and communicate ideas to a range of stakeholders, including senior members of academic staff
  • Proficient IT skills (including MS Office suite and ideally web content management systems)
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently and manage a diverse workload
  • Strong teamwork skills and experience

Desirable criteria

  • Good knowledge of methodologies for developing and maximising research impact
  • Experience with KEF (Knowledge Exchange Framework, UK)
  • Line management experience
