Work Schedule & Autonomy
- Flexible Alternative Work Schedule: Work the majority of your time from your home office.
- Fluid Flexibility: Create your own daily schedule according to the needs of assigned cases.
- No Evenings or Weekends: Work is conducted during standard business hours.
- On-Site Requirement: You must meet at various school sites to conduct in-person interviews on an as-needed basis (approximately 25% of the role).
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Investigations: Execute thorough, impartial, well-documented, and timely investigations in compliance with institutional Title 5, Title IX, UCP, and Personnel complaint policies.
- Interview Parties: Question complainants, respondents, and relevant witnesses using a trauma-informed approach, documenting all statements accurately.
- Evidence Collection: Gather, evaluate, and assess the relevancy of physical, digital, and documentary evidence.
- Case Management: Maintain highly detailed, organized, and confidential digital case files.
- Report Writing: Draft comprehensive, concise, logical, and grammatically correct preliminary and final investigation reports.
- Collaborate Externally: Work productively alongside institutional HR Coordinators to ensure investigations move forward equitably and adhere strictly to policy timelines.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $170,000 per year.

Candidate Profile & Requirements
Mandatory Education & Experience
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in legal or compliance-related work, specifically conducting investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
- Education: A Bachelor's, Master's, or Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited institution. (Preference given to JD or Master's degrees in criminal justice, social work, or a related field).
- Industry Context: Prior work experience within a higher education, community college, or K-12 environment is required.
Core Skills & Technical Requirements
- Geographic Residency: Must maintain a permanent residence in Southern California. Applicants residing outside Southern California will not be considered.
- Licensing: No individual PI license is required (you will operate under NMA's firm umbrella license).
- Writing Mastery: Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to generate flawless, complex analytical reports.
- Technical Literacy: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and a typing speed of at least 80 WPM.
- Equipment: Must own a reliable personal vehicle and a laptop computer suitable for a quiet home office setup.
- Disposition: Compassionate yet strictly impartial, objective, attentive to detail, open to constructive criticism, and resilient under high-pressure dynamics.
