A position as Senior Lecturer in the field of Training Science is available at the Centre for Sports Science and University Sports at the University of Vienna / at the Institute of Sport and Human Movement Science. The Institute offers degree programs in Sport and Human Movement Science as well as in the teacher training program for the subject of Physical Education and Sports. The position is rooted in university teaching and contributes to the instruction of training science content and practical skills in the education of sports scientists and teachers in the subject of Physical Education and Sports.

Your workplace:

As a Senior Lecturer, you will work in the field of training scienceand take on teaching responsibilities in the Sports and Movement Science programs. Teaching takes place at the bachelor’s and master’s levels and encompasses various teaching formats. Emphasis is placed on conveying training science content based on current scientific findings, as well as on a close connection between theoretical foundations and practical applications.

A key focus of the teaching role is on conveying the fundamentals of training science, as well as on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of training processes and performance diagnostic procedures, particularly in the areas of strength, speed, and coordination training. This includes equipping students to plan, implement, and evaluate training interventions tailored to specific target groups, as well as to systematically analyse diagnostic data and their integration into training science-based decisions.

In addition, teaching duties may also encompass other areas of training science and include contributions to the teaching of physical education and sports in teacher training programs.

The 40-hour-per-week workload includes a teaching commitment of an average of 14 semester hours per week of academic instruction.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in scientific teaching, research & administration, which means:

  • You will independently lead courses at the bachelor’s and master’s levels
  • You will actively contribute to the (further) development of course and exam formats
  • You are expected to stay abreast of the current state of the field, engage in didactic professional development, and undertake research tasks during periods when you are not teaching.
  • In addition, performing administrative tasks, particularly in the area of teaching administration, is part of the job profile

  • A completed doctorate in sports and exercise science or a related discipline
  • Several years of independent teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution
  • Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and for university teaching
  • Proven research experience at a postsecondary educational institution
  • Experience in advising students and evaluating academic performance
  • Experience using digital teaching and learning formats
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Willingness to contribute to the further development of academic programs and course offerings
  • Excellent English skills
