The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world-leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology, and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates around one third of the students at Karolinska Institutet at both basic and advanced levels. We are now seeking a candidate who would like to join NVS and contribute to our department.
Aging Research Center (ARC) is a division within NVS located at Karolinska Institutet campus Solna, Stockholm. ARC is a multidisciplinary research environment with three main scientific areas (medicine, psychology, and social gerontology). The center has around 70 employees and has a strong focus on research. ARC is one of the principal organizations behind the SNAC-K study (Swedish National Study on Aging and Care–Kungsholmen) and hosts the national e-infrastructure for aging research, NEAR (National E-infrastructure for Aging Research), a platform for the coordination and harmonization of longitudinal, population-based studies on aging and health in Sweden.
Description of the subject area
Research on ageing is inherently interdisciplinary and examines how biological, environmental, social, and health and social care service contexts influence health, functioning, and quality of life in older populations. It integrates perspectives from gerontology, epidemiology, the social sciences, and public health. At ARC, advanced methods are used to explore the complex, cumulative, and interactive factors underlying healthy ageing, as well as to inform preventive interventions and models of care. The advertised position aims to strengthen the academic capacity in both research and education within the field of ageing research.

Your mission
Your role is to conduct high-quality, internationally competitive research on ageing, with a focus on the multidimensional determinants of health, functioning, and well-being in later life. This includes examining biological, environmental and social determinants, to generate evidence that supports healthy and equitable ageing across the life course.
The role requires strong leadership and a clear commitment to developing academic capacity in this area. You are expected to lead your own research group and to take a leading role in the management of population-based studies or related data infrastructures. The position also involves collaborating with researchers from different disciplines at national and international levels, as well as engaging with the wider community.
In addition, the role includes supervising students and PhD students as well as developing and delivering courses, primarily at the advanced level, within epidemiology, public health, and gerontology.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent scientific skills and very good pedagogical skills.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
Assessment criteria
The Senior Lectureship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (2), leadership and collaboration skills (2).

It is furthermore meritorious that you have demonstrated
- Documented experience of leading and coordinating large-scale data collections or research data infrastructures
- Extensive knowledge and experience in analysing longitudinal data using epidemiological methods
- Experience in integrating individual and contextual perspectives on healthy ageing in research, education, or policy-oriented initiatives
