Remuneration: Level C: $168,578 to $194,406 pa (inclusive of $142,451 to $164,275 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading). Level D: $202,974 to $223,630 pa (inclusive of $171,515 to $188,970 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading).

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Urban and Regional Planning Systems to join School of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering.
The Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Urban and Regional Planning Systems will be strongly engaged in research and teaching that advances sustainable development goals and outcomes in urban and regional cities, towns, and communities. The successful academic will bring a critical perspective on planning at the systems scale and demonstrate an ability to apply evidence-based and collaborative action toward achieving social, economic, and environmental outcomes in urban and regional environments. The successful candidate will be a recognised expert in any field relevant to urban and regional planning systems. This could include food planning, metropolitan planning, urban governance, First-Nations communities infrastructure planning, or climate adaptation planning, among other areas. The successful candidate will be strongly engaged in School’s Built Environment education program and in leading significant research partnerships and programs with internal and external collaborators. The position requires a highly motivated academic with a passion for innovative teaching and delivering research outcomes that substantially address local and global issues of significance, such as addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and responding to climate change and inequality.

The School of Architecture and Built Environment delivers programs, knowledge and technical skills focused on designing, planning, constructing, and managing the built environment sustainably. We also research and teach tools and technologies such as construction and architectural robotics, environmental simulation and assessment, and big data analytics to inform projects and decision making.
What you need to succeed
Level C
- Completion of a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent accreditation or standing. Demonstrated expertise and track record in teaching and research in planning at a systems level (could include a in one or more of the following areas: land use systems and planning, structural design, infrastructure; urban policy and governance and/or ecological sustainability or other areas relevant to planning systems not listed here. Membership (or eligibility to become a member) of the Planning Institute of Australia and demonstrated expertise as a practicing Urban or Regional Planner will be regarded favourably.
- Effective leadership in the successful development and delivery of research projects. Demonstrated experience initiating, developing and maintaining excellence in research demonstrated by high-quality publications, success in attracting competitive external research funding, and successful supervision of student research projects including PhD completions.
- Demonstrated track record in high-quality, real-world teaching (including unit / course coordination) including an ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning and a demonstrated capacity to teach classes in the professionally oriented Urban and Regional Planning Major.
- Demonstrated networks and experience in leading the development of impactful partnerships with industry, professional associations, government or community groups in research and teaching.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead self and embrace change to improve personal and organisational effectiveness, cooperate and collaborate well with others in a team with diverse backgrounds and expertise including cross-disciplinary collaborations.
- Demonstrated leadership and sustained experience in engaging with First Nations colleagues and communities in ways that value Indigenous authority, including responding constructively to feedback and embedding that guidance into teaching, research, or leadership practice will be regarded favourably.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
Level D
- Completion of a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent accreditation or standing. Demonstrated expertise and track record in teaching and research in planning at a systems level in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded: land use systems and planning, structural design, infrastructure; urban policy and governance and/or ecological sustainability, or other areas relevant to planning systems not listed here. Membership (or eligibility to become a member) of the Planning Institute of Australia and demonstrated expertise as a practicing Urban or Regional Planner will be regarded favourably.
- Outstanding established track record of developing, leading and delivering impactful research projects. Demonstrated experience in initiating leading, developing and maintaining an impactful research program as demonstrated by high-quality publications, success in attracting research funding, research team leadership and mentoring, effective research project delivery, and successful completion of higher degree student research projects as primary supervisor.
- Demonstrated significant track record in high quality, real-world teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (including unit/ course coordination and curriculum development). Demonstrated expertise in high-quality, real-world teaching including an ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, and a demonstrated capacity to teach classes in the professionally oriented Urban and Regional Planning Major.
- Demonstrated networks in urban and regional planning and leadership experience in initiating and building impactful partnerships with industry, professional associations, government or community groups in research and teaching.
- Demonstrated ability to lead self and others in a positive, collegial manner and implement change to improve personal and organisational effectiveness. Ability to cooperate and collaborate well with others in a team with diverse backgrounds and Interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated leadership and sustained experience in engaging with First Nations colleagues and communities in ways that recognise Indigenous authority, including responding constructively to feedback and embedding that guidance into teaching, research, and academic leadership to effect meaningful change will be regarded favourably.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
