The Senior Research Assistant on the AI Sprayer project plays a key technical and team leadership role, primarily focused on advancing the system's computer vision pipeline, including visual odometry and plant-species-level detection capabilities. Their work involves enhancing the existing deep learning models to ensure high detection accuracy and improve navigation within open-field environments.
This person will also be responsible for the mechatronic aspects of the project, such as the upgrade of the drive controller, optimising nozzle resolution, operating speed, and dosing consistency, while ensuring the seamless integration of the weeding system with the CALLAN mobile field-robot platform.
The person will also provide a team leadership role in leading a team of students and interns who are contributing to the project. This will involve training individual team members, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring work on the project.
Salary:
Research Assistant Level 2 (2026): €38,674 – €42,799 p.a. (Points 1-6)
Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
