Job Summary

Research the role of cardiovascular dysfunction in obesity. The candidate will work with animal models relevant to a human disease, using multiple experimental techniques including surgery, cell culture, flow cytometry, real-time PCR, and histological studies using transgenic and knockout animals. The candidate will manage the lab, lab core, experiments, and present at laboratory meetings and national scientific meetings.

Responsibilities

Breeding and genotyping of transgenic mice, maintaining accurate logs of mouse colony, organ harvesting and protein extraction from mice, staining of mouse aortas for atherosclerotic lesions, and immunoblotting of mouse tissues for site-specific phosphorylation of various proteins.
Manage telemetry program to include tracking telemetry transmitters, their refurbishment, and the telemetry schedule.
Perform various experiments requested by PI. Analysis of experimental data with various statistical and graphical programs.
Resources management - Stock keeping and ordering of lab consumables, supplies, equipment and chemicals. Manage chemical, biological, and environmental safety in the lab...
Training and supervision of students, volunteers and research assistants...
Manage blood donor collection samples.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology... and two years of experience...
OR
Bachelor's degree... with a minimum of five years...

Preferred Qualifications

Extensive experience with cell harvesting and culture techniques, light microscopy, handling rodents, and breeding and genotyping of transgenic mice.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office...
Knowledge of basic analytical and molecular techniques.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking...
