Senior Research Laboratory Technician (Part Time, Fixed Term)

We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Senior Research Laboratory Technician to join our friendly and collaborative research group at the University of Cambridge. This is a varied and rewarding part-time role, combining laboratory management, research support, and opportunities for science communication and public engagement.

The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory, while also contributing to an exciting and impactful research programme. We are committed to providing development and training to all staff.

This role contributes to an innovative 5 year European Research Council (ERC)-funded research programme investigating how genetics influences appetite and obesity risk in both dogs and humans. By leveraging the power of genetic studies in pet dogs alongside human studies, we aim to uncover new biological mechanisms and inform improved prevention and treatment of obesity.

This is a varied position suited to someone who enjoys taking initiative and working across a range of responsibilities. You will be a key member of the team, leading the day-to-day organisation of the laboratory, helping to create an efficient, welcoming, and well-organised research environment.

The role holder will be a proactive, reliable individual who has attention to detail and takes pride in enabling high-quality research. You will have substantial experience working in a laboratory or research environment and practical experience of molecular biology techniques is desirable. The successful candidate will have strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. This post is part time, 24.25 hours per week and may suit an experienced technician seeking a flexible or part-time position, including those returning to work after a career break. Conversations about flexible working arrangements are encouraged.
