The principal role of the Library Service Desk Assistant is to provide excellent customer service within the Ehrhorn Law Library by answering basic directional, resource, and technical-related requests from all library users. This is a position that demands courteous and polite interactions with the service population, and an obvious, vigilant posture while staffing the service desk. This position reports to the Access Services Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides excellent customer service by answering library user questions in person and on the phone, reserving study rooms for law students and faculty, and locating physical and electronic resources for checkout or in-library use.
- Maintains and cares for library spaces and resources by completing hourly counts, reshelving and shifting books, checking printer supplies, reading the shelves, updating legal texts, and cleaning the library.
- Performs the general duties listed above with the goal of maintaining a clean and clutter-free environment conducive to study.
- Completes special projects assigned by the Access Services Coordinator/Supervisor.
- Keeps a vigilant posture while staffing the Library Service Desk to identify patrons who may need assistance and/or those who may be exhibiting behavior that is problematic to others.
- Demonstrates the ability to work in and with diverse populations, supporting an inclusive environment.
- Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
- Complies with the Liberty University School of Law business casual dress code.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
- Grade point average of 3.0 or above is preferred.
- One semester of college education is required.
- Federal Work Study status is preferred
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Some knowledge of the Library of Congress classification and call number system preferred.
