Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in Teacher Education
The Faculty of Education at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Teacher Education. This is an open Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) to the teaching stream for a one-year term to commence July 1, 2026.
The Faculty of Education is one of the leading faculties of education in Canada with a particular focus on research with social impact. We are an engaged and deliberately diverse community of faculty, educators, staff, and students committed to academic and research excellence, democratic practices and the promotion of decolonizing, equitable, and inclusive education.
The successful applicant will teach education courses in the Bachelor of Education program within the Faculty.
The successful applicant will join the faculty members based at York’s new Markham Campus.

Candidate Qualifications:
- Degree: PhD or PhD equivalent (e.g., EdD or an MEd or MA) with a substantial record of professional experience in Education) is required.
- Teaching:
- A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students (e.g., teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations, student and peer evaluations).
- Provide evidence of effective teaching of courses in a primary/junior teacher education context.
- Strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to teacher education teaching, learning and program design, and evidence of good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching.
- A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching at the university level (as evidenced through teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations, student and/or peer evaluations).
- Expertise in K-12 education and teacher education.
- A strong commitment to and evidence of commitment to the social justice goals of the Faculty, evident in all activities above.
- Additional: Have teaching qualifications, with preference given to candidates holding Ontario College of Teachers certification. (Or Hold Ontario College of Teachers certification).
- Expertise in Primary-Junior education.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
Hiring Policies:
- The anticipated starting salary for this position at the rank of Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and commensurate with qualifications and experience, is in the range of $116,000-$126,000.
