Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to obtaining extensive medical history; assessing, diagnosing, and treating acute illness and those elements of primary medical care that are reasonable within the constraints of the nature of student health and the individual's certification; prescribing the appropriate therapies including medication; providing on-going medication monitoring; ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic tests including laboratory, radiologic, and EKG tests; assisting with emergencies; documenting all pertinent data in patient's electronic medical record; referring clients to physicians/specialist and/or other community resources as appropriate; and providing a holistic approach to patient care, including provision of patient education as appropriate.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and 'approved to practice medical acts' by the Joint Subcommittee
- Current CPR certification required
- Must have the ability to respond to a broad range of medical problems with varying complexity and make the right decisions about treatment
- Must have thorough knowledge of techniques in interviewing, medical and relevant history taking, principles and practices of general medicine and disease states as they relate to the area of work for general medical conditions
- Must have thorough knowledge and ability to plan and monitor a regimen of care based on assessment and findings
- Must have considerable knowledge of available resources and appropriate referral methods
- Must have skills in performing clinical functions and in performing/assisting with routine minor surgical procedures
- Must have the ability to examine patients and detect abnormalities; ability to record accurately and completely all information necessary to evaluate and formulate a care plan and the convey this to the supervising physician as needed
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families and colleagues.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and to gain the confidence of patients and families and work effectively with them.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Previous work experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in a college health setting is preferred
Required Certifications or Licensure:
Nurse Practitioner candidates: Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and 'approved to practice medical acts' by the Joint Subcommittee.

Physician Assistant candidates: Graduation and or completion of an educational program for Physician Assistants accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and an active Physician Assistant License issued by the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.*All diplomas, degrees, licenses and certifications must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.*
Work Hours: Varies between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Work Days: Varies between Monday - Friday
Hours Per Week: PRN
Anticipated Hiring Range: $40-$50/hour
