SITE MONITOR – CHA GRANT (LEARN & EARN) PART-TIME
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
Reporting to the Dist Dir-Partners in Education, Site Monitors are assigned to work at a college campus or satellite location hosting a Learn and Earn Summer Youth Program. Responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment for students enrolled in the summer program, and protecting CCC’s campus facilities, property, and equipment from damage or loss. Performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Works with CCC facility coordinator at campus location to ensure requested space and equipment such as classrooms, office, storage, cafeteria areas, computer and other audio-visual equipment are available and accessible to summer program participants.
- Checks and documents physical condition of classrooms, equipment, and other property before and after use by program participants to assess and determine any damages to CCC property and/or loss of equipment and other resources.
- Monitors the daily arrival and departure of students to assist instructors and program coordinators in taking program attendance and monitoring the movement of students in and out of assigned classrooms.
- Monitors and observes student actions in the classrooms, in the hallways and on campus to help maintain a safe environment and ensure individual students are where they are supposed to be for their personal safety.
- Responds to requests for assistance from instructors in establishing control over classrooms where students are acting in a disruptive manner.
- Assists instructors and program coordinators in guiding students to move in an orderly manner from classrooms to cafeteria and other campus locations to ensure minimal disruption to regular campus operations.
- Monitors and observes activities in the cafeteria, ensuring the orderly behavior of students arriving and departing during breakfast and lunch time periods.
- Acts as a liaison between program coordinators and college staff including building engineers, IT staff, and security personnel to help troubleshoot and resolve classroom space issues, computer equipment problems, and other problems.
- Uses a program checklist to review program operations and prepare a weekly report to supervisor on program activities, incidents, and related issues.
- Works closely with college Security Officers to enforce and maintain campus safety and security policies and procedures.
- Assists facility coordinators with logistics in organizing special events such as parent night, information sessions, or program completion ceremony.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of experience working with youth in an educational setting, or in a non-profit organization as a youth counselor, worker, or similar role.
- Moderate proficiency in the use of personal computers and software, including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Demonstrated patience, commons sense, and a positive attitude towards working with young people.
- Understanding of group dynamics and their impact on youth behavior
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and listening communication skills
- Ability to effectively engage youth in positive interactions
- Capacity and patience to connect with youth from diverse cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain composure and control in challenging situations
- Ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and access multi-level buildings
- Demonstrated willingness to take on responsibilities and job challenges
- Diligence and thoroughness in completing tasks
- Demonstrated reliability, responsibility, and dependability with a commitment to fulfilling obligations
