Skilled Trades Worker II
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the manager/supervisor in the Operations and Maintenance department, this is advanced skilled work in a wide variety of trade tasks in the areas of electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, plumbing and general maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment and in simple construction and fabrication tasks. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM. Weekend work (Saturday and Sunday), overtime, on-call, and emergency callback is required.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance - 50: Performs a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building maintenance related tasks. May assist carpenters, painters, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and electricians in their assigned duties.
- Repairs - 30: Work independently both on various building related repairs and installation projects in the Operations and Maintenance department.
- Inventory - 10: Maintain shop areas, mechanical rooms, stock, supplies and manage waste generated from work tasks.
- Compliance - 5: Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Other - 5: Any other duties and tasks assigned or as required to meet the goals of the department, division, and Georgia College.
Required Qualifications
- Educational Requirements: High school diploma or GED
- Other Required Qualifications: Ability to operate a computer or iPad in order to receive and send email and submit work orders; Valid driver's license
- Required Experience: Five to ten years of general maintenance or preventative maintenance experience. One to two year's experience in specialized building trade, i.e., HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical or Carpentry.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- ABILITIES: Effectively communicate in English through email, orally, and in writing. Read written materials, work instructions, safety procedures and material data safety sheets. A person working in this classification will need to be able to grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy objects (50-75lb) objects daily. A person working in this classification will need to be able to climb (on an average of 50+feet), and work from ladders, scaffolding and staging daily. Ability to operate a vehicle. Ability to work with other trades.
- KNOWLEDGE: Read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.
- SKILLS: Use of tools and equipment in the repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment. Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC and refrigeration systems. Use power tools including but not limited to circular and reciprocating saws, sanders, and grinders, drills, pipe thread machine, sewer machine, welder, acetylene torch, cut-off saw, and various hand tools and wrenches, electrical testing devices, and voltage meters.
