Description Summary
The Skills for Daily Living Community Volunteer Specialist
identifies, secures, coordinates, and supervises volunteer
opportunities for students enrolled in the Skills for Daily Living
Program. Opportunities are selected based on students' abilities,
interests, and support needs. When not coordinating or supervising
volunteer activities, the Specialist assists instructors with
program classes and events.
The duties and responsibilities of this position may change based
on the needs of the program and/or the College.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Identify, secure, coordinate, and supervise volunteer
experiences for students in the Skills for Daily Living Program at
on-campus and community-based sites.
Build and maintain relationships with community partners, local
organizations, and businesses to expand volunteer opportunities and
program reach.
Develop and maintain an annual schedule of volunteer activities
and communicate schedules, expectations, and changes to students,
families, staff, and community partners.
Recruit student participants from Skills for Daily Living
classes and provide parents or guardians with timely information
regarding available volunteer opportunities.
Assess volunteer opportunities for alignment with students'
abilities, interests, support needs, and program goals.
Provide appropriate supervision, guidance, and support to
students at volunteer sites and promote a safe, inclusive
environment.
Maintain accurate records of student participation, class
rosters, volunteer hours, community partner contacts, and related
program documentation.
Assist Skills for Daily Living staff with program classes and
events when not coordinating volunteer opportunities.
Assist with developing and distributing flyers, social media
content, and other digital promotional materials for Morton College
community volunteer activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in special education and at least two (2)
years of experience working with students with intellectual
disabilities.
- Ability to identify, secure, and supervise volunteer sites in a
variety of settings throughout Morton College and the surrounding
communities.
- Demonstrated dependability, punctuality, flexibility,
creativity, sound judgment, and the ability to receive and provide
direction.
- Strong time-management, organizational, verbal, and written
communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple
priorities.
- Ability to operate a Morton College bus and maintain a driving
record that meets College requirements.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends to
supervise community volunteer opportunities.
- Demonstrated commitment to Morton College's core values of

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
and with varying abilities.
- Familiarity with Morton College and the surrounding
communities, including potential volunteer sites for students in
the Skills for Daily Living Program.
