This MSW role provides social work services to adults in two clinics, providing care for patients with Parkinsons and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) diagnoses. As both are progressive neurodegenerative diseases, these patient populations suffer from the effects on their nervous systems and voluntary muscle movement. This position will have significant portion of their time (75%) dedicated to providing psychotherapy to patients in both clinics. Both face-to-face and virtual work will be utilized in this position. This position is partially supported with philanthropic funds.

- Experience providing evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions.
- Significant clinical practice experience in medical social work.
- Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
- Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective case dispositions.
- Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical clinic.
- Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position.
- Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.
- Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer.
- Significant experience with medical social work in the contexts of degenerative neurological diseases.
Current department hours are 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday ? Friday.
This position requires being onsite at Taubman Center for ALS clinic on Wed. (8:00 a.m. ? 5:00 p.m.) Therapy (virtual) hours may vary and could include early evenings if needed to accommodate patient schedules.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
