The ideal candidate's work will link to other substantive areas in the department (culture, social inequality, and social psychology). Candidates should be prepared to teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, especially in the area of Sociology of Health, and to strive for excellence in teaching.

The Department supports a concentration in the field of health with core faculty and interdisciplinary collaborations across the university, including with the School of Medicine's MD-PhD program, Rollins School of Public Health's PhD-MPH program, and Emory College of Arts and Sciences' undergraduate major in human health, and in Atlanta with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
