SOMA - Regional Director of Medical Education Assistant Professor
A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) is seeking an exempt RDME Assistant Professor, on the San Ysidro Community Site Region. The Regional Director of Medical Education (RDME) will work collaboratively with ATSU-SOMA leadership to ensure that assigned students complete all DO program requirements in OMS III and OMS IV years.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Facilitate Grand Rounds once each block. Ensure attendance is tracked and submitted to ATSU-SOMA.
- Monitor student progress and refer to the Student Achievement Success Team/appropriate Dean/Course Director/Clerkship Director as needed.
- Formal Advising meetings with each OMSIII and OMSIV once per semester and with additional advising meetings as needed.
- Help coordinate the scheduling of clinical requirements for each year (identifying, securing, and scheduling the following clinical rotations): OMS III: Core Rotations (FM, IM, Surgery, OGGyn, Pediatrics & Psychiatry), OMS IV: Clinical Requirements (EM, ICU)
- Assist the Clinical Education Department (CED) team in obtaining necessary documents for preceptor credentialing and site Affiliation Agreements.
- Provide Clinical Preceptors with ATSU-SOMA Core and Required Clinical Rotation information, including Syllabi and Experiential Learning Objectives (ELOs).
- Annually review the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) application platform and the training provided on VSLO by the Student Achievement Success Team (SAST).
- In collaboration with the Regional Education Coordinators (REC) and Clinical Education Department (CED), ensure timely completion and submission of CREs by Clinical Preceptors.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of Student Evaluations of Rotation (SERs).
- Address any concerns that may arise about a clinical site (examples: Clinical Preceptor, CRE retrieval, Clinical Rotation facilities, Access to EMR, etc…)
- Complete required clinical site visits to core clinical sites annually and more frequently as needed, and complete site visit reports.
- Enforce all ATSU University and ATSU-SOMA policies consistently with all students.
- In collaboration with the REC ensure all students receive onboarding and orientation for core clinical site-specific requirements.
- In collaboration with the REC, ensure that all proctoring is carried out in accordance with ATSU-SOMA Examination Administration Guidelines.
- Annually attend ATSU-SOMA Professional Development Week and graduation ceremony each May in person at the Mesa, AZ campus.
- Assist ATSU-SOMA with Clery Act compliance as requested and provide data as requested by ATSU Leadership.
- Complete ATSU RAVE Alert system training and utilize the RAVE alert system as indicated. Perform a test of the RAVE system annually.
- Complete ATSU Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) training. Monitor for FERPA violations and report violations to ATSU-SOMA Leadership as needed.
- Attendance is expected and required for the following meetings: RDME meetings, Faculty Staff Meetings, Quarterly RDME meetings, OMS III and OMS IV orientations, and any additional meetings as per the Dean or the Associate Dean of Clinical Education.
- Attendance and/or viewing of the following meetings is required and expected: Professional Development for Faculty and Staff meetings, Student Achievement Success team sessions, and Professional Development Week.
- Complete all ATSU University requirements, including annual Required Employee Training (RET), annual employee evaluation process, HR orientation, HR training, and Orientation by the RDME Clinical Liaison.
- Read and understand the CE Manual, ATSU Catalog, including the ATSU-SOMA specific section, and ATSU Student Handbook.
- Other duties as assigned by ATSU-SOMA Dean, Associate Dean of Clinical Education and/or RDME Clinical Liaison.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- DO or MD degree with specialty board certification at some point in the career
- Active medical license in the State of California (or ability to attain this license within 12 weeks of hire)
- Must have the following experiences: Clinical practice, Small group facilitation, and Teaching medical students in a classroom or at the bedside.
- Willingness to learn and utilize distance learning technologies.
- Must have computer skills, including a working knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Office suite, Zoom.
- Three to five years prior experience.
