Description:

The School of Continuing Education at Purchase College, SUNY seeks candidates for an instructor position from June 29 - July 10, 2026. The Songwriting and Intro to Music Production instructor position is full-time 30 hours/week; Monday, June 29 - Friday, July 10 (10 sessions; participation in Open House April 25, 2026; 9:45 - 12 noon); attendance at one Summer Staff Orientation meeting (June 25, 5PM-PM or June 27,10AM- 12PM). The position works with a lead instructor and both report to the Performing Arts Coordinator in the School of Continuing Education. The candidate for this position should have a strong background and experience in music production.

Songwriting & Intro to Music Production, grades 9 - 12, 2-week program. Whether you're into pop, hip-hop, rock, R&B, or something totally original, you'll explore melody, lyrics, and song structure, while gaining hands-on experience with recording and sharing your work. All experience levels are welcome-whether you're just starting out or already writing your own songs, this is your chance to grow as an artist and make music that's truly your own.

Elevate your songwriting to the next level with daily small-group instruction in lyric writing, music theory, and arranging. Master industry-standard software like Pro Tools and GarageBand, and discover powerful strategies to market yourself and your music through online and grassroots channels. Sharpen your live performance skills with guidance from seasoned professionals, and walk away with a polished recording of your final performance.

The primary responsibility of the position is to collaborate with the lead instructor to plan for and execute cohesive activities that support the above program description. In collaboration with the lead instructor, the candidate is responsible for the introduction to music production portion of the program. The incumbent is also responsible for assisting in planning and executing a culminating event to be held on the last day of the program. The instructor is also responsible for the overall safety of the students.

Duties include, but are not limited to: collaborating with the lead instructor in creating curriculum, syllabus, and a culminating event, and reviewing supplies on hand.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of/experience with Songwriting, music, music production, and teaching experience preferred. An undergraduate degree is required - preferably in music, music production or related field. A Master's degree in education, music related field or equivalent musical production experience, and/or teaching certification are pluses. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience: in music production and in teaching music in a K-12 setting and/or camp setting.

The successful candidate must possess strong music production skills, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Additionally, he/she/they must enjoy working with children and have a commitment to the performing arts.

Special Note:
