JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Professor (Non-Tenured) in the School of Nursing is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in classroom, clinical, and/or other educational settings while supporting student learning and academic success. The faculty member will utilize evidence-based and innovative teaching practices; advise, supervise, and mentor students; participate in nursing curriculum development, evaluation, and continuous improvement; and contribute to scholarly and professional activities. The position also supports the mission of the School of Nursing through active participation in school, college, and university service and continued engagement in professional nursing organizations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide high-quality undergraduate and/or graduate nursing instruction in classroom, clinical, practicum, skills laboratory, simulation, and other assigned educational settings.Fulfill the required instructional workload, including a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours for undergraduate instruction or nine (9) credit hours for graduate instruction, inclusive of assigned clinical or practicum courses.Develop and maintain course syllabi, clinical schedules, lectures, presentations, assignments, assessment rubrics, and other instructional materials aligned with established course and program learning outcomes.Utilize evidence-based and innovative teaching methodologies and the University’s Learning Management System to promote student engagement, learning, competency development, and academic success.Evaluate student achievement of course and clinical learning outcomes; assign grades; maintain accurate academic and clinical records; and submit required records within established deadlines.Advise, mentor, and supervise students; maintain scheduled office hours; and provide academic, clinical, and professional guidance to support student progression and success.Coordinate with course coordinators and clinical agencies to plan, schedule, orient, supervise, and evaluate students participating in clinical practice, practicums, simulations, internships, observations, field experiences, and other experiential learning activities.Demonstrate nursing procedures in skills and simulation laboratories; supervise student practice and demonstrations; evaluate student performance and competency; and provide appropriate feedback.Participate in the design, review, assessment, and continuous improvement of nursing curricula and support compliance with applicable regulatory, licensure, and accreditation requirements.Maintain scholarly productivity through research, publications, professional presentations, and other scholarly activities and remain current in nursing practice and evidence-based teaching methodologies.Participate actively in School of Nursing, college, and university committees; professional nursing organizations; community engagement; and other institutional or professional service activities.Maintain effective oral and written communication, fulfill assigned faculty responsibilities, and travel to clinical practice sites as required for student supervision and clinical coordination.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Nursing required to teach in the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
- Terminal doctoral degree in Nursing required to teach in the graduate nursing programs (MSN, DNP, and Ph.D.).
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional nursing experience.
- Current, unencumbered Louisiana Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned doctoral degree in Nursing or a closely related field.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure.
- Previous teaching experience in an undergraduate and/or graduate nursing program.
- Three (3) or more years of professional nursing experience, including clinical practice experience relevant to the assigned teaching area.
- Demonstrated experience or involvement in nursing scholarship, research, professional practice, and/or service.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES:
- Current, unencumbered Louisiana Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure preferred.
