Specialist Associate (Facility Manager, SJINML)

Job Description

A Specialist Associate is required to assist in the maintenance and management of the St. John’s Island National Marine Laboratory (SJINML), a marine station locate on St. John’s Island, Singapore.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance:
    • Manage facility Managing Agent (MA) on the routine scheduled inspections and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems to prevent failures.
    • Manage facility MA on the general maintenance of the SJINML facilities and infrastructure, including the maintenance of seawater pumps and aquaria systems, facilities and safety management.
  • Repairs and Renovations:
    • Manage facility MA to execute building maintenance, including painting, carpentry, drywall repair, and lighting, to keep facilities functional.
    • Assist in facility upgrading and renovation works
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Monitor building security and fire systems, ensuring all areas meet the latest safety compliance.
    • Review safety risk assessments (RA) and standard operating procedure (SOP) plans for facility.
    • Assist the Safety Coordinator/s on safety matters including documentation and reporting
  • Emergency Response: Serve as a primary contact for facility-related emergencies.
  • Vendor Management:
    • Coordinate with external contractors on works that required specialized maintenance.
    • General admin work related to facility.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of supplies.
  • Assist in logistics for SJINML activities and programmes at large
  • Any other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiar with working system in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Good analytical skills to diagnose technical issues.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform manual labour, including lifting equipment, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Minimum NITEC/ NTC 2/ Diploma in any relevant field preferably Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering. Must be able to read and interpret circuit drawings for electrical and electronics and manage basic plumbing.
  • First aider experience and Class 3 driving licence would be useful.
  • Job location is St John's Island and travel to work includes ferry ride. Candidate must be able to swim. He/she/they should be prepared to work in offshore location.
  • As the job requires frequent interaction with students and researchers, good communication skills and a positive attitude is required.
  • Candidate should be self-motivated and able to work in a team and individual.
