Specialist, Environmental Health & Safety
Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for the operational aspects of programs associated with environmental health and safety compliance and will promote the principles of EH&S in support of the University's mission of providing high-quality instruction, scholarship, and service with excellence. Must be able to lift 25lbs or greater.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in environmental health science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Loss Prevention and Safety, or other field of study in a related field is required.
Experience: At least one year of related experience is required. Preferably in a Public Safety, emergency management, and/or environmental health and safety, or their equivalents. Experience in the University environment is strongly preferred. The candidate will also possess strong oral and written communication skills. GSP, ASP, or CSP certification preferred.
Job Duties
- 60% - Assist in the day-to-day EHS departmental operations regarding compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety regulations and standards. - (Essential)
- 20% - Develop programs and policies to facilitate compliance with all applicable laws and recommended standards and train our community on such programs and policies. - (Essential)
- 15% - Maintain Federal/State/Local Reports, Manage Hazardous Waste, and Respond to Emergencies - (Essential)
- 5% - Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned. - (Essential)
