Carnegie Mellon University is searching for a motivated Career Counselor to support students at the Integrated Innovation Institute. This role will support graduate students in the Master of Integrated Innovation for Products & Services degrees, both online and in-person, to navigate the next career goals. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with high attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills to support a variety of student needs. This role will report directly to the Associate Director of Corporate Outreach and New Engagement.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored career coaching and support to iii online and residential MIIPS students through 1:1 appointments (in person and virtual), office hours, workshops, mock interviews, and information sessions.
- Create and maintain updated resume books throughout each semester for students' internships and full-time job search.
- Provide updated resumes for employer relations purposes to assist with creating tailored outreach to employers.
- Serve as a liaison, disseminating information about job opportunities to students and gathering feedback regarding standout experiences with employers.
- Lead tech treks, site visits, and other student activities with employers.
- Liaison with key departments throughout campus for student needs, such as the Office of International Education (OIE) and the Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC).
- Stay abreast of hiring and recruiting trends in relevant industries to assist students in their job search strategies.
- Develop career resources and materials tailored toward MIIPS students' interests and needs.
- Communicate through Slack, email and other resources to reach students.
- Present engaging and tailored workshops throughout each semester on topics related to MIIPS students' career development such as, resume building, negotiating offers, job search methods, networking strategies, etc.
- Track and report student employment data around internships and first destination outcomes for both online and residential MIIPS students.
- Collaborate with iii Alumni Relations Manager on students' employment locations upon graduation.
- Primarily support MIIPS graduate students' career development; provide supplemental support to new EDIE undergraduate program, and iii alumni.
- Prepare career-related reports and provide information to faculty, advisors or other departments.
- Maintain student career records, sign CPT/OPT forms, and track internship approval process for residential MIIPS.
- Help with departmental projects and other duties as assigned

- Have strong analytical and evaluation skills.
- Have familiarity with roles/industries commonly pursued by iii graduate students such as design, product, and engineering related roles.
- Enthusiastic and enjoy engaging with others.
- Have the ability to work independently for extended periods and manage time constraints to meet deadlines and goals.
- Have successful experience working in a team environment with various communication tools - email, calendars, Slack, etc.
- Have an eagerness to learn new project management tools, such as Monday.com.
- A team player for the iii - eager to participate in events, meetings or other projects as needed to elevate the iii.
- Have higher education experience (not required, but a plus).
Qualifications:
- Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (required), higher education administration or counseling focus is preferred.
- 3-5 years academic counseling experience
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
