Sterile Supplies Specialist
Job Summary
The Sterile Supplies Specialist is responsible for the sterilization and processing of supplies and instruments for distribution. Responsible for inspecting, sorting, disassembly/reassembly, manual and mechanical cleaning, biological processes, equipment operation, packaging, sterilizing, storing and distribution of sterile supplies. Work is performed under direct supervision and is reviewed by observation of results obtained. Also required to work ADEX (CRDTS) exams and mock boards, as well as, other special board certifications exercises throughout the year as needed requiring weekend work up to approximately 4-6 times per year.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
INVENTORY: MAINTAIN DAILY INVENTORY CONTROL OF ALL INSTRUMENTS:
- Generate inventory sheets for dental faculty, residents, and students.
- Identify the need for repair, provide preventive maintenance for instruments, and hand pieces.
- Assist with the periodic inventory of supplies and instruments.
INSTRUMENTS: DISPENSE AND COLLECT ALL INSTRUMENTS TO AND FROM DISPENSARIES/CLINICS:
- Ensure proper instructions are supplied within each cassette.
- Identify the need for repair, provide preventive maintenance for instruments, and hand pieces.
- Distribute appropriate instruments to dental dispensaries accurately and efficiently. Dispense and sterilize instruments for board candidates.
INFECTION CONTROL: ENSURE THAT THE HIGHEST QUALIFY OF INFECTION CONTROL IS MAINTAINED:
- Operating sterilizers and conducting procedures for testing (Bowie Dick, Biological monitoring)
INVENTORY CONTROL:
Operate computer system/scanners for inventory control, create labels, maintain forms, and create barcode labels
ROOM MAINTENANCE:
Maintain all rooms associated with central sterilization, conduct scheduled cleaning of wall floors, counters, equipment, and conduct daily cleaning of assigned work area.
OTHER DUTIES:
Perform all other job-related duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned by management.
Follow all published guidelines regarding personal protective gear and clinical infection control protocol established by Federal, State, Augusta University, or Dental College of Georgia policies.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accredited organization with knowledge of sterilization processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from a Dental Assistant Program and/or graduation from a Sterile Process Technician Program
OR
Associate degree from an accredited college and university with two years of sterilization experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software and databases
Knowledge of dental instruments and equipment
SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to learn sterilization principles, procedures, equipment and patient management software
Good manual dexterity
Ability to distinguish colors, and lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
Ability to effectively interact with dental assistant, students, faculty and staff
Prioritize tasks, complete work, and meet deadlines
Shift/Salary/Benefits
11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (with Shift Differential)
Pay Band: B2
Salary: Minimum $15.77/hour
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
