Stipendiary Lecturer (2 hours) in Inorganic Chemistry (plus 6 hours, non-stipendiary)

St Catherine’s College proposes to appoint a 2 weighted-hour Stipendiary plus 6 weighted-hour Non-Stipendiary (Class A) Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry. The eight-hour lecturership will be for one year in the first instance. The stipendiary hours are bound to the duration of a partial teaching buy-out, whereas the non-stipendiary hours continuously support teaching in Inorganic Chemistry at St. Catherine’s College.

The Lecturer will be part of a diverse and motivated team of Chemistry tutors and will be expected to teach eight weighted hours a week, averaged over the three terms (twenty-four weeks) of the academic teaching year. The College operates a weighting system whereby hours spent teaching groups larger than one person count for more than one hour. St Catherine’s typically takes 10 Chemistry students and teaching is expected to be organised in small groups of usually 3-5 students. The post-holder will be responsible for teaching many of the core topics of Inorganic Chemistry across the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year topics. In addition, as a member of the team of Chemistry tutors, the post-holder will be expected to play a full role in the running of Chemistry in the College, including arranging tuition in Chemistry, participating in the admissions process, setting and marking College examinations, and taking a role in the pastoral care of undergraduates. The total annual remuneration for three terms is currently £8,048. This is made up of an annual stipend of £5,636 plus a termly stipend of £804 per term. For the Class A hours that are taught in excess of 2 hours per week the appointee will be paid at the Senior Tutors’ Committee rates.

The Lecturer will be a member of the Senior Common Room and will be entitled, free of charge, to five meals per week (three of which may be lunch) during Term and the Entrance Period, and one lunch and one dinner per week outside Term. Teaching/seminar rooms are available for booking within College.
