Stone Laboratory Continuing Education Consultant
Under the supervision of Ohio Sea Grant Extension Senior Program Leader, works cross functionally to plan, coordinate, and promote the programs education and outreach initiatives to ensure alignment with the Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab mission (includes regular engagement with programs Continuing Education Specialists). In this role: develops new and/or updates existing evidence-informed educational lessons to increase Great Lakes literacy of community members of all ages, with focus on Stone Labs Lake Erie Science Field Trip program; assists with the development of new or expansion of existing education and outreach programs for visitors of all ages to the island campus and off-island events and formal classroom engagement; identifies opportunities to foster a more accessible education environment; when necessary, represents Stone Lab at meetings and professional conferences (e.g., Organization of Biological Field Stations, National Association of Marine Labs, National Marine Educators Association, Great Lakes Sea Grant meetings); works with community partners to coordinate and execute education and outreach events that engage the public with hands-on Lake Erie science; oversees the care and handling of Stone Labs captive fish and herpetofauna colonies used for outreach and education purposes; develops content and generates reports for all IACUC education and outreach protocols and agency scientific collection permits; works with Ohio Sea Grant Extension Specialists and other Ohio Sea Grant staff (i.e., off-island educators) to contribute to and develop education and outreach grant proposals to increase Great Lakes literacy and bring associated programming to Stone Lab; revises, develops, and/or implements content for tours of Stone Lab facilities and programs; when needed teaches Stone Lab Field Trips and conducts tours of Stone Lab facilities for public and invited guests; creates job requisitions, post positions, recruits, interviews, hires, onboards and co-supervises (with Stone Lab Manager) a team of full time temporary positions (e.g., Biological Field Station Assistants, BFSAs); performs other duties as assigned to assist in the operations of Stone Lab, off island educators, and Sea Grant Extension Specialists.
Full-time, regular position with duties to be performed both on-site at Stone Laboratory (Bayview Office, ~50%) and on the mainland (office location TBD, Ottawa County preferred, ~50%). Ability to work remotely on occasion will be considered.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in biological sciences, fisheries, wildlife, ecology, or environmental science with a focus on science communication and 6 years of relevant experience. Knowledge and familiarity with environmental education or environmental interpretation, or science education; 2 years of combined experience in education, teaching, or outreach; and experience developing program education and outreach materials. Successful completion of a background check.
Desired Qualifications:
Masters degree in education, experience caring for and handling herpetofauna and fish in captivity or in a lab or field research setting. 8-12 years of relevant experience desired.

- 5%- All other duties as assigned.
