About OCC Student Employment Program & Opportunities
Student employment provides an opportunity to earn money and continue your education. Job opportunities offer temporary employment with the Coast Community College District. The program consists of: General-Student Assistant, Federal Work-Study Student Assistant, CalWORKs Work-Study Student Assistant, LAEP Intern Student Assistant.
Representative Duties
Specific job duties are defined by the appropriate Division and/or Department. Considerable training may occur on the job.
- Student Assistant I – Entry level/Semi-skilled: Work under immediate supervision, standardized duties.
- Student Assistant II – Intermediate/Advanced: Work under general supervision, varied assignments, minimum one year experience.
- Student Assistant III – Specialist/Lead: Broad variety of skills, independent judgment, minimum two years experience.
Qualifications
- Student Assistant I: Little or no prior experience or education required.
- Student Assistant II: Some previous knowledge, experience, or education required.
- Student Assistant III: Prior experience, education, or specialized skills required.
Skills and Competencies: Skills required to perform a job assignment. Ability to balance work and studies.
Key Qualifications: Full-time students enrolled in a minimum of 12 units at one of the three colleges within the Coast Community College District (OCC, GWC, CCC). Demonstrated evidence of responsiveness to diversity (D.E.I.A.).
Conditions of Employment
- May not exceed 19.5 working hours per week during fall and spring semesters; maximum 28 hours per week outside semesters.
- Prohibited from other District employment in same Fiscal Year (July 1 – June 30).
- At-will employees, no benefits, no entitlement rights.
