Job Description
Statement of Learning Outcomes for FWS Student Employees:
Students employed in the Financial Aid Office will learn a variety of interpersonal skills such as teamwork, clear communication, civic engagement, and customer service. As they are trained on the technical aspects of the Financial Aid application process and online forms, students will also learn general computer skills and increase their knowledge of technical forms.
Function of Position:
The Federal Work-Study Student Assistant supports the daily operations of the Financial Aid Office by providing customer service assistance to students, families, and staff. This position helps ensure efficient office operations while contributing to student success and access to financial aid resources.
This position may be funded through Federal Work Study (FWS) and/or departmental budgetary funds, depending on eligibility and departmental need. Federal Work Study applicants must be approved by the Financial Aid Office prior to employment consideration. If you are unsure of your FWS eligibility, please contact Financial Aid before applying. Applicants must include their M# in any correspondence with the Financial Aid Office.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist students and families through the financial aid application process, such as acquiring FSA IDs or completing FAFSA and TAP applications.
- Assist students in completion of any MCC-required financial aid-related forms, such as verification forms, dependency overrides, etc.
- Advocate for and guide students through scholarship applications utilizing the Scholarships Open application.
- Assist the office when needed in outreach to students
- Participate when available in special events such as Open Houses, Orientation and Registration days, Admitted student events, etc.
- When needed, do general office work, filing, and/or document uploads.
- When needed, student aides might be called upon to occupy the reception desk and sign in students to see a Financial Aid Advisor.
- Participate in training activities to increase financial aid knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled as a student at Monroe Community College
- Must maintain satisfactory academic progress and be in good academic standing
- Federal Work Study eligibility is required for FWS-funded positions (must be approved by the Financial Aid Office prior to hire)
- Ability to work independently
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Be able to work as a team.
- Have a basic understanding of the MyMCC portal, such as how to access email, look up financial aid awards, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
- Have an interest in Financial Aid.
- Understanding of web-based applications and forms.

Pay Rate: $16.00/hour
Hours per Week: Up to 20 hours/week
Semester Hiring: Fall 2026 Semester
