Advertised Job Summary
The Office of Community Empowerment (OCE) Student Success Coach provides programmatic support to student engagement initiatives within the College of Education. The Student Success Coach oversees the Apple Core Initiative (ACI) by coordinating program activities, student engagement efforts, and outreach events. ACI is a flagship OCE program that recruits high school students from high-poverty and rural communities into teacher education programs at the University of South Carolina. This role assists the OCE in delivering student-centered programming and outreach efforts that contribute to the College’s mission of expanding access to educational opportunities. The Student Success Coach facilitates communication with internal and external partners and provides support to prospective and current students through coaching, orientation, and participation in OCE-sponsored initiatives.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting student programs, educational initiatives, or community outreach efforts. Familiarity with higher education and P–12 environments.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and community partners.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to follow established processes and complete assigned tasks accurately.
- Basic skills in data entry, recordkeeping, and administrative support.
- Knowledge of working with students and supporting educational programs.
Job Duties
Provides the coordination and implementation of the Apple Core Initiative (ACI), including supporting logistics for meetings, events, field experiences, and student activities. Collects and organize data for internal and external reports, such as grant documentation and the ACI Report Card. Ensures the timely completion of tasks such as scheduling, travel coordination, room reservations, and processing reimbursements. Maintains program records, including student participation, engagement tracking, and basic data entry. Supports communication efforts by coordinating meetings, preparing materials, and assisting with outreach to students and guest speakers, and maintain program continuity and transparency. (75%)
Acts as a liaison between the OCE and South Carolina’s broader educational ecosystem, including public schools, districts, and nonprofits. Coordinates partnerships with local schools, districts, and statewide community organizations. Coordinates planning and execution of OCE events and outreach activities. Helps foster community-rooted engagement for the ACI Program. (10%)
Provides support to students participating in the OCE programs, including assisting with orientation and engagement activities as well on personal, social, vocational, and academic concerns. Assists in facilitating student group activities and leadership development opportunities. Supports student organizations and program-related initiatives as assigned. Gathers feedback from students and partners to support program improvement efforts. (10%)
