JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Regional Extension Outreach Agent – Central Louisiana (C-LA) is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational outreach programs designed to improve the overall well-being and quality of life of Louisiana residents. The position utilizes a balanced, holistic programming approach and serves as a key educator and community resource in the areas of youth development, agriculture and natural resources, nutrition, and community and economic development. The Regional Extension Outreach Agent works with individuals, families, communities, and other stakeholders to deliver programs that support the mission of the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SU Ag Center). This position serves the Central Louisiana region, including Natchitoches, Grant, LaSalle, Catahoula, Concordia, Avoyelles, Rapides, and Vernon Parishes, and will be domiciled at the designated state or parish office for the advertised location. This position is supported by federal funding, and continued employment is contingent upon the availability of such funding.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate research-based educational programs, workshops, and demonstrations in youth development, sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, nutrition, and community and economic development. Design and deliver culturally relevant, inclusive educational materials and activities that address identified community needs. Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, governmental agencies, and other partners to expand program reach and impact. Lead youth development programs, including 4-H initiatives, focused on leadership, citizenship, STEM education, career readiness, and personal development. Implement evidence-based nutrition and wellness programs that promote healthy eating, food security, physical activity, and overall well-being. Partner with community organizations and stakeholders to support efforts that reduce health disparities and improve access to nutritious foods. Facilitate community development programs that strengthen rural and urban communities through leadership development, entrepreneurship support, and resource development. Engage local stakeholders to identify community priorities and develop Extension programs and responses that build community capacity and resilience. Collect, maintain, and analyze program data to measure outcomes, demonstrate program impact, and fulfill reporting requirements. Maintain accurate records of program activities, participation, and outcomes, and prepare educational materials, newsletters, reports, and success stories for outreach and reporting purposes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, Community Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional experience.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational and facilitation skills.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Competence with digital tools used for education, communication, and reporting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in community engagement and outreach.
- Experience with youth development or 4-H programming.
- Experience in agricultural education or Extension-related programming.
- Experience developing and delivering educational programs, workshops, or community-based initiatives.
- Experience collaborating with schools, community organizations, governmental agencies, or other community partners.
WORK REQUIREMENTS:
- Position may require evening and weekend work based on program and community needs.
- Regular travel throughout the assigned region is required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to reliable transportation.
