Supervisor, Grounds
Position Summary
This position is responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance of campus grounds, roadways and parking areas to provide a safe, healthy and attractive environment. Directly responsible for overseeing the daily Grounds departmental operations in support of Event Services setups and FPC office/staff relocations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Schedule, supervise, motivate and document the daily operations Grounds personnel. Oversee landscaping operations to include establish and maintain flowerbeds, shrubbery and trees; including soil preparation, planting, thinning, mulching, watering, pruning, leaf removal and weeding as needed. Schedule tree planting and removal as needed. Ensure grass mowing operations are completed on a timely schedule. Ensure campus grounds are maintained in a neat and orderly manner by managing the collection of trash/recycling from the grounds, parking lots, monitoring bulk trash/recycling containers and clearing leaves and debris from all steps and sidewalks. Assist the FMO Director and Asst. Director with snow removal operations of all roadways, parking lots, exterior walkways, ramps and stairways to ensure all campuses can be accessed safely. Schedule and oversee the setup/breakdown of spaces for all Event Services activities as requested, to include flooring, staging, furniture, seating, decorations, etc. In coordination with Facilities, Planning & Construction, move/assemble/relocate furniture and equipment as required for main campus and satellite facilities. Manage the inspection/maintenance of all campus fire hydrants, storm drains and storm-water management ponds; ensure safe and efficient operation in accordance will all applicable governmental standards/guidelines/codes. Ensure all Grounds and snow removal equipment is properly maintained for safe, efficient operation by scheduling routine maintenance and repairs. The ability to operate forklifts, front-end loaders, tractors, bucket truck and other Grounds equipment as necessary to perform assigned duties. Unload and/or relocate freight in support of various college departments.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record as determined by college policy. Documented supervisory experience and skills training with the ability to organize multiple crews. Demonstrated competency in the operation, maintenance and repair of grounds and heavy equipment. Must possess a working knowledge of OSHA and MOSHA workplace safety regulations. A demonstrated knowledge for the proper care of various plants, shrubs, trees and turf management with the ability to comprehend professional materials related to the job duties. Practical knowledge of soil types, soil management strategies and landscaping best practices. Ability to work safely and reliably with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications:
Operation of computer equipment including word processing, database management, record keeping and computer maintenance management systems (CMMS). Maryland Department of Agriculture Turf (3C) Pesticide and Turfgrass Fertilizer licenses.
