Supervisor Sterile Processing
Under the direction of the Manager, Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and Linen Services, the Supervisor, SPD ensures the safe, efficient, and accurate receipt, storage, ordering and delivery of supplies, equipment, instruments, and linen throughout the institute. The SPD Supervisor will also supervise all sterile processing activities, including decontamination, preparation, sterilization, sterile storage, emergency/code cart assembly, and equipment cleaning and storage.
This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the institute?s Linen and Lab Coat program.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, organizes, allocates work to, and supervises the activities of staff on assigned shift engaged in the decontamination, processing, and sterilization of patient care items and equipment.
- Maintains endoscopy and ultrasound transducer equipment and accessories following infection control guidelines, departmental policies and procedures, and manufacturer?s guidelines.
- Assists SPD Manager and SPD System Administrator/Educator with orientation, training, and continuing education program for staff.
- In conjunction with SPD Manager, develops, implements, and monitors SPD policies and procedures.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work area in compliance with all standards, regulations, and policies.
- Interfaces with instrument tracking system for all functions of sterile processing.
- Works with service representatives making recommendations to improve the overall quality and efficiency of linen services.
- Performs duties of assigned staff in response to emergency, changes in workload or staffing shortages.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures as well as thorough knowledge of aseptic techniques, equipment operations and instrument and equipment identification.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards, i.e., AAMI, TJC, OSHA, DPH, AORN.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficiencies.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 3 years recent experience in Sterile Processing required.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certified Sterile Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) certification through Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD) with annual renewal required.
