The Department of European and Eurasian Studies at The University of Texas at Austin seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Instruction in Swedish for the academic year 2026-2027. The position involves teaching the department's two-semester intensive Swedish language sequence for six credit hours per semester, as well as Advanced Swedish for three credit hours per semester, a three hour course on Children's Literature of Northern Europe in the Fall 2026 semester, and potentially a three hour course on Sweden: Innovating for the World in the Spring 2027 semester. Service is also required in conjunction with the instructors of the other Scandinavian languages the university offers (Danish and Norwegian). The position carries the possibility of annual and eventual multi-year renewal, contingent upon job performance, the continued needs of the department, and availability of program funding.
Qualifications
Applicants must have at minimum a Master's degree (a Ph.D. is preferred) in the Swedish language or in a closely related field (any area of Scandinavian studies, linguistics, or a related field), possess native or near-native abilities in both Swedish and English, and demonstrate a well-developed and substantial teaching record, preferably in a university context. Preferred qualifications include a track record of successful student supervision, mentorship, and teaching/curricular development, and effective program management skills.
