Synthesis and Spectroscopic Characterisation of CPL Active Organobornon Materials

About the Project

The object of this project is to develop and optimise boron organic fluorescent dyes, including chiral molecules for a range of applications including bio-sensing.

The recruited PhD student will work in a dynamic and supportive research environment within the Chemistry Department. They will receive in-depth training in synthesis, spectroscopy and microscopy aspects of the project from experts in the field. The successful applicant will be provided with a broad experience over the course of the PhD.

The position is suitable for students with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry or Physics (2:1 or above).

Durham University has particular strengths in photophysics and biophysics research. It hosts the Durham Centre for Soft Matter and an EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in soft matter (SOFI2) together with the Universities of Leeds and Edinburgh. Durham University's collegiate system offers all students further opportunities for interdisciplinary and extracurricular activities. Durham itself is a picturesque medieval city in northeast England, centred on a World Heritage Site consisting of the 11th century Castle (now part of the University) and Durham Cathedral.
