Systems Administrator I
Position Summary
This position reports to the IT Director and collaborates with the other technicians and student workers to provide, maintain, and support instruction and research services for faculty, staff, and students within the school.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Technical
- Management/supervisory skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills (hardware, OS, networking, and application).
- Experience with enterprise clustered and virtual hosting environments.
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools
- Data center experience including the installation, management, and support of storage devices and physical servers.
- Working knowledge of security standards and best practices.
- Working knowledge of automated configuration management (PowerShell)
- Knowledge of database development and management concepts.
- Experience with L2/L3 networking (Routing, VLAN Management, load balancing, firewalls.
- Familiarity with scripting and tools (PERL, BASH, Python, etc.).
- Familiarity with the creation and use of software package management and versioning tools (YUM/RPM, Aptitude, Git).
- Familiarity with 3rd party cloud hosting and services (AWS, GCS, or Azure).
- Lead and manage projects and follow through to completion.
- Experience with Team Dynamix.

Physical Demands

Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintain multiple servers including but not limited to: File Shares, License Servers, and Digital Signage servers
- Maintain Windows and Mac endpoints using Microsoft Intune
- Write scripts using Windows PowerShell and Shell to install software and automate processes for the School of Forestry’s Computers
- Write and configure GPOs/CSPs to ensure endpoints are adhering to security standards
- Automate endpoint OS updates, software updates, and system updates
- Setup and maintain new computers using Microsoft Intune and other Windows Tools
- Fulfill purchasing requests by answering questions and providing suggestions
- Maintain relations with vendors maintain the latest technology
- Troubleshoot Advanced AV issues escalated by Tier 1 technicians
- Maintain all classroom computers and technology
- Supervise, teach, and train other members of Warnell OIT including student workers
Percentage of time: 85
- Maintain devices on the network as the Designated Network Liaison
- Monitor Network traffic using tools provided by UGA/EITS
- Monitor the security of your devices and Servers with the use of the Microsoft Defender Portal
- Assist in the escalation of Tickets from the Tier 1 technicians
- Support projects that improve the teaching and learning experience for instructors and students
- Expand IT infrastructure through planning and collaboration with other units
- Collaborate with staff and faculty to plan and implement upgrades
- Collaborate with vendors to facilitate A/V upgrades and warranty issues
- Collaborate with EITS Networking to facilitate network changes
- Maintain a working Knowledge Base for the department to reference
- Documenting changes to the Computing systems and relaying that information to the team through the Change Management Channel
- Maintain Ticketing system and update for new processes within Warnell OIT
- Work in cross functional teams to meet departmental technology requirements
- Develop solutions for report or data access needs, explore or recommend technology solutions
- Develop technical specifications for hardware need/upgrades, assisting with end user device support, and identifying emerging technologies
